Case Description
why do the teeth that my orthodontist shaved down to make my bite better now have a greyish/blueish tint to them compared to my other teeth that weren't shaved down, one tooth in particular stands out to be discolored and when I look in a magnified mirror and place my tongue behind the tooth it covers up the blue-hue? Thanks for any help. Marie

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Two things can be causing grey teeth..thinness and bleaching. As teeth are shaved, they loose thickness and light transmits through them easier. This causes the color change. Bleaching takes out yellow and makes light transmit through easier also. Have you been doing any bleaching, crest white stips, etc?

When the enamel gets thinned, the teeth become more transparent (gray/blue in appearance). I may be able to place a little bonding on the tongue-side of your teeth to improve the aesthetics. I did this recently for a patient, and it worked really well. Please schedule a complimentary consultation visit with me so we can discuss all of your options. We will take digital images of your teeth and together come up with a plan that best suits you. We offer excellence in dentistry in a pampering spa environment. And we understand the importance of customer service. Call us (770) 998-3838 or e-mail me to help you schedule your visit (susanestep@gmail.com). I look forward to seeing you soon! Sincerely, Dr. Susan Estep
