Case Description
My mom has a partial on the lower. The canine or one next to it is the main tooth that the partial fits around. It is loose and is just sitting there. Is it possible to save it. There is one on the top that is slightly loose but it is not as loose as the bottom one. Please advise. Her health is remarkably good--some arthritis and a little confusion at times but heals quickly when she has a bruise or scratch. Good appetite. Not as mobile as in the past, but neither am I. We are in Athens.

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

The good thing is that the tooth is still there. The bad thing is that its loose. Support for partial dentures comes from stable teeth. Since the tooth is loose, it is not supporting the partial. The partial may be the cause of the loose tooth. Three causes of loose teeth are gum disease and resulting loss of bone, a bad bite that has inclines pushing teeth sideways from overwhelming stress, and an ill-fitting partial. In any case the cause should be eliminated if possible to save the tooth or other teeth. We would be glad to assist in any way, if you wish.Bill Williams, DMD, MAGD
